Independence Day Celebrated all over the Country

The nation on Saturday observed the 41st Independence and National Day with a fresh vow to build Secular, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh. The day's programs were heralded with a 31-gun salute at Tejgaon. Old Airport in the capital at dawn as a token of respect to the heroic struggle of the nation.

President Mohammad Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led the nation in paving tributes to the martyrs of the liberation war by placing wreaths at the National Mausoleum at Savar at the sunrise. They stood in solemn silence for some time showing respect to the liberation war martyrs. After the departure of the president and prime minister, the memorial was opened for general people. Thousands of people carrying banners, placards and wreaths paid (their glowing tributes to the martyrs. Different political placed, socio-cultural organizations, professional bodies and educational institutions also placed wreaths at the memorial. On this day in 1971, Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the independence of the country followed by an armed struggle.

The Victory came on 16 December after a bloody war of nine months. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Dhaka district administration organized a programme for the children at Bangabandhu National stadium. Different socio-cultural organizations arranged different programmes to mark the day. BTV, Bangladesh Bear and different satellite channels telecast special programmes.
